XP-Pen

Best for: Beginners learning digital drawing, students and Android or Chromebook users
The XPPen Deco 01 V3 is a screenless pen tablet from XP-Pen. You connect it to a computer or a supported Android device with a cable, then draw on its 10 x 6.25 inch surface while your lines appear on the monitor.
XP-Pen calls it a large drawing space, so you can draw with longer arm strokes instead of small wrist movements. The pen needs no battery and no charging, and XP-Pen rates it at 16,384 pressure levels with up to 60 degrees of tilt.
Based on the manufacturer's Amazon listing.
Press lightly for a thin line and harder for a thick one, then tilt the pen to shade the way you would with a pencil. More pressure levels means smoother changes in line weight.
The stylus needs no battery and no charging, so it is ready whenever you pick it up and never dies halfway through a drawing.
Set each key to a command you use often, such as undo, brush size or zoom, so you reach for the keyboard less. The keys can be set up for right- or left-handed use.
This is the part of the tablet that reads the pen. A larger area maps more comfortably to a big monitor and gives your hand room to move.
You can also draw on a phone or Android tablet. XP-Pen recommends its XPPen Tools app, which matches the drawing area to your screen shape, including in portrait mode.
It is slim enough to slide into a backpack for drawing or note-taking away from your desk.
The ends of the drawing area light up, so you can find the edges when you work in a dark room.
Look elsewhere if: you want to draw on the screen itself. A pen display such as the XPPen Artist 13.3 Pro V2 shows the image under your pen.
