About Ethan

Ethan Cole is the editor of Drawings Easy. He plans and writes the site's step-by-step drawing tutorials, drawing idea collections and art supply buying guides, and he keeps older guides current as products change or disappear from Amazon.

His writing starts from one assumption: the reader may be picking up a pencil for the first time. Tutorials break a subject into simple shapes before adding detail and shading, and every buying guide answers the questions beginners actually ask. Do I need this? Which one fits the way I draw? What will I outgrow?

How the buying guides are researched

Drawings Easy does not run a testing lab, and the guides do not claim hands-on testing. Each guide is researched instead, the same way for every product category:

  1. Shortlist. Products that are widely sold, currently available and suited to the job the guide covers, such as a sketchbook for alcohol markers or a tablet for a child.
  2. Specifications. Manufacturer specs are compared side by side: pressure levels, screen size and compatibility for tablets, paper weight and tooth for sketchbooks, core type and lightfastness for pencils.
  3. Buyer feedback. Verified buyer reviews are read for patterns, especially repeated complaints about bleed-through, breakage, dried-out markers or driver problems.
  4. Fit. Each pick is matched to the artist it suits best, with honest cons, so a guide tells you who should skip a product as well as who should buy it.
  5. Updates. Product details in the shop come from Amazon's own product data, and products that are discontinued or replaced get swapped out when they are found.

What you will not find here

  • Claims that a product was tested in a studio when it was not.
  • Paid placements. Brands cannot buy a spot in a list.
  • Prices frozen into articles. Prices change daily, so every product links to Amazon to check the current price.

Writing tools

Writing tools, including AI assistants, help with drafting and with keeping hundreds of guides consistent. Ethan reviews and edits what is published and is responsible for it.

Drawings Easy earns a commission when readers buy through some links on this site, including Amazon links. You pay nothing extra, and commissions never change the order of a list or whether a product is included. The affiliate disclosure explains how this works.
